The Disaster Recovery Preparedness (DRP) Council is an independent research organization engaged in IT disaster recovery management, research, and benchmarking. It has been formed to provide practical guidance to IT and risk management professionals on how they can improve Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery.

Steve Kahan – Council Chairman – Unitrends
Steve Kahan serves as chief marketing officer at Unitrends with a focus on Europe. He has over twenty-five years of experience building high energy, high commitment organizations that produce breakthrough revenue growth. Prior to the acquisition of PHD Virtual by Unitrends in 2013, Steve served as CMO at PHD Virtual, responsible for global campaign marketing, product management, partner marketing, branding and marketing communications as well as public and analyst relations.
Dave Simpson – 451 Group
Dave Simpson joined 451 Research’s Storage practice as Senior Analyst in June 2011. He leads the company’s research activities around data protection, in particular those driven by emerging technologies and business models, such as virtualization and cloud. Accordingly, Dave serves as the lead analyst for technologies including backup and recovery, data deduplication, disaster recovery, replication and high-availability.
Bilal Hashmi – Verizon
Bilal Hashami is Senior Systems Engineer (virtualization/cloud) for Verizon. He has worked with a variety for different technologies, focusing most recently on datacenter consolidation and cloud computing. At Verizon his role provides insights into how the world of IT is evolving, and he is active on public forums and through his own blog at www.cloud-buddy.com
Michael Sink – University of South Florida
Michael Sink is the Director of Data Center Infrastructure at the University of South Florida, providing oversight of Data Center Operations, Storage, Server Platforms, Collaborative Systems, and Change Management. He is responsible for the Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery program for the University that comprises all infrastructure and application systems. He has experience leading Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery programs in a variety of industries and sectors, including Banking, Insurance, Distribution, Healthcare, and Higher Education. His current role includes BC/DR initiatives that cover systems supporting 49,000 students, 10,000 faculty and staff and multiple Data Centers serving four campuses. Michael participates in the Tampa Bay Technology Leadership Association, the Tampa Bay Technology Forum, and is a member of the Tampa Bay area AFCOM chapter.
Steve Lambropoulos - University of South Florida
Darren Hirons – Health and Social Care Information Centre, UK
Darren Hirons is a Principal Systems Engineer at the Health and Social Care Information Centre in the UK where he manages a team that maintain the organization’s server infrastructure. Darren has 13 years experience working on business continuity plans and has implemented a variety of disaster recovery technologies to meet business needs throughout his career. His professional areas of expertise include skills in Microsoft and VMware technologies. His key successes include the migration of 900 servers to three new data centres and playing a key technical role in a recent organisational merger.
Riaan Hamman – Chief Technology Officer, Puleng Technologies
Riaan Hamman is Chief Technology Officer at Puleng Technologies based in Johannesburg South Africa. He holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Pretoria. Prior to his position of CTO, he was senior solutions architect for backup, storage and replication technologies. Riaan has more than 10 years of experience in������������������ the DR and High Availability space and has implemented and architected solutions for various organizations over the span of his career.
Anita DuBose -��Council Research Director – Unitrends
Anita DuBose has been a consultant and research analyst for over three decades in IT infrastructure solutions. She has implemented mission-critical, large-scale IT projects for banking, insurance, healthcare, and manufacturing. An ongoing strategic component of these implementations has been the Disaster Recovery Risk Analysis, Planning, Production, and Testing to ensure continuous operation. As Research Director for the DRP Benchmark Council, Anita leads the design of the benchmark metrics and the statistical analysis of the benchmark survey data.

Each member of the DRP Council contributes to our mission by:
- Reviewing and approving benchmarking assessments, methodologies and prescriptive guidance
- Reviewing and approving the DRP Annual Report published by the Council
- Making themselves available to the media for comment and analysis as subject matter experts
- Participating as speakers at industry conferences, trade shows, and other events
